Ana Guerrero is an organizational strategist who brings more than 30 years of experience in running organizations, leading campaigns, building coalitions, and developing and implementing public policy to her consulting practice.
Guerrero served as Chief of Staff to Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti from 2013 to 2021. Previous to Garcetti’s Mayoral term, she served as Chief of Staff in Garcetti’s City Council office and supported him in leading the legislative branch of Los Angeles city government while he served as Council President from 2006 to 2012.
As Chief of Staff to Mayor Garcetti, Guerrero managed the mayor’s office annual budget of $50 million and a staff of more than 250 employees. She directed all aspects of the administration and implemented Mayor Garcetti's ambitious policy agenda. Under Guerrero's leadership, the Garcetti Mayoral Administration delivered numerous historic victories, including:
► Lifting the minimum wage to $15 an hour
► Passing Measure M to fund the historic expansion of public transportation
► Expanding and modernizing LAX
► Creating College Promise to guarantee high school graduates free community college tuition
► Launching and implementing L.A.'s landmark Green New Deal
► Securing the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games
► Bringing gender equity to City Hall's powerful boards and commissions for the first time in history
Guerrero also led the Mayor’s pandemic response and oversaw labor negotiations with large public agencies, such as the Port of Los Angeles and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.
Guerrero started her career as a community organizer in 1990. While leading the Sonoma County Faith Based Community Organizing Project, Guerrero mobilized immigrant families to push local government to build more affordable housing. She came to Los Angeles in 1995 to run the United Neighborhoods Organization and led a campaign that helped more than 5,000 immigrants become naturalized and civically engaged citizens.
Guerrero has received numerous awards throughout her career, including the 2013 Ray of Hope Award from Hispanas Organized for Political Equality (HOPE); the 2017 Women for a New Los Angeles Award from the Los Angeles Alliance for New Economy (LAANE); the 2017 Helen F. Chavez Award from the United Farmworkers; and the 2019 Gender Justice Champion Award from the Women’s Foundation of California. Guerrero received an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters from the University of La Verne in 2021.
Guerrero is an immigrant from Mexico and is the daughter of farmworkers. She holds a B.A. degree in Liberal Arts from Antioch College. Guerrero and her husband have three children and live in La Crescenta, California.
